Week 4

The world needs good news and local businesses need our support. MT+Co. CEO and Co-Founder Rob Miller has taken time over the last few weeks to share some positivity on social media by highlighting businesses that are doing great things and that deserve recognition.

DAY 22

CLOS DU SOLEIL.

Clos du Soleil Winery is an award winning Okanagan winery that is a household favourite here. They also happen to have 10% off and free shipping at the moment. Try the Celestiale and the Capella :) Not all of the health impacts of the current situation are physical, and it’s really important to make sure people have the tools they need to be healthy mentally and spiritually as well. Many of us are experiencing anxiety, depression and other psychological impacts from all of the uncertainty. Clos du Soleil is doing something about it by donating 10% of sales to support the British Columbia Psychological Assn’s online support service for essential services workers. Cheers (salut) to Clos du Soleil and their good work!

DAY 23

ACCESS PRO BONO.

OK - today is another cheat because I’m focusing on a not-for-profit, not a business. But it’s a not-for-profit doing really important work.

In times like these, access to justice is critically important to ensure that no one is left behind or unable to access the tools they need to survive. Access Pro Bono Society of BC provides free legal advice to those who need it, and has mobilized phone clinics to provide guidance to anyone struggling with legal issues relating to COVID-19.

Consider supporting Access Pro Bono and my friend Jamie Maclaren, QC and help ensure those that need the justice system to work for them in right now can access it.

DAY 24

TELUS.

TELUS is providing free internet under its “Internet for Good” program to low income families. Connectivity is more important than ever - to do our jobs, to access educational tools, and to stay connected in ways that support our mental health.

Thank you TELUS for supporting your clients who need you the most.

DAY 25

ENDY.

Endy, the online mattress company, has donated mattresses and pillows to St. Paul’s hospital. The donation will give all front-line health care workers in the intensive and critical care units in St. Paul’s a comfortable place to sleep while they’re focusing on around-the-clock care.

Thank you ENDY for making sure those that keep us safe are taken care of.

DAY 26

GROCERY HERO.

GroceryHero Canada connects local volunteers with local healthcare workers. Volunteers provide grocery deliver, and healthcare workers focus on doing the good work they are doing keeping the rest of us safe.

Thanks Grocery Hero for social innovation and creating a thoughtful service that helps us all.

DAY 27

HARBOUR OYSTER.

Harbour Oyster on Commercial Drive is offering free burgers to health care workers. And apparently they’re good burgers. If there’s a better way of expressing gratitude than a free good burger, I’m not sure what it is.

So thank you Harbour Oyster for finding a great way to say thanks to people risking their lives to save ours.

DAY 28

LITTLE KITCHEN ACADEMY.

Little Kitchen Academy is a Montessori-inspired cooking academy focused on providing a safe, inspiring and empowering space for children to identify, develop, and refine their senses and build a foundation for a healthy lifespan. As a culinary learner, mindfulness nerd and parent, I’m in! But wait - there’s more! While it’s operations are shut down, Little Kitchen is providing free healthy snacks to bus drivers. A great example of a company living its mission and values in difficult times!

Thanks Del Nsumbu for bringing this one up!
